Gender Affirming Care

Prism Health strives to provide compassionate, affirming primary care for transgender and gender non-conforming folks in a safe, friendly, and culturally responsive atmosphere. From the front desk staff who will check you in, to the provider who will see you for your appointment, all staff at Prism Health are dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming space. We believe that gender-affirming care should be comprehensive and integrated into the primary care experience, rather than through a piecemeal approach. This means that all of our providers are able to provide gender-affirming care, so you can avoid having to see multiple providers to have all your care needs met.

Through professional and personal experiences, the staff at Prism Health also recognize that our community experiences oppression based on our many intersecting identities. Historically, this has meant that our community has not always been able to access safe and affirming healthcare. In an effort to reflect that in our work, we created a position, the RN Gender Care Coordinator, with more capacity than the traditional healthcare model allows for. Through a generous grant by CareOregon, the RN Gender Care Coordinator seeks to not only assist individual patients in achieving their gender health goals, but they also work to identify and address larger system level disparities.

Our patient-directed, trauma-informed approach to care provides for a variety of affirming healthcare needs including:

  • hormone therapy, education, and management

  • referrals to gender affirming surgeries

  • coordination with behavior healthcare providers to provide mental health letters of support based on WPATH standards of care for gender affirming surgeries

  • gender-affirming pap smears, pelvic exams, and prostate exams

  • chest health

  • STI screening

  • Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) therapy

We also realize that the best patient outcomes happen when a person is cared for in all of their essential needs. That is why our RN Gender Care Coordinator also works with community partners to help folks access other affirming resources, such as food security, housing, and transportation.
